Submissions are now open for the next Portland Slam-a-ganza!
WHERE: Funhouse Lounge - 2432 SE 11th (just north of Division)

WHEN: Friday, April 20 @ 8pm

THEME: Heroes and Villians

FOR LIVE ACT SUBMISSIONS: Please email your proposed puppet show in a short 2-3 sentence synopsis. It can be a show you’ve already done or a new piece that you have yet to work on. (Example: I want to perform a piece about a lobster who saves his best friend, Clammy, from a dark, watery death. Hero!) If we are not already familiar with your work, please send pictures of your past work or a website/youtube link. Your past work does not have to be puppets; it can be paintings or collage or sculpture, something to show what you can do.  All shows must be 2 - 8 minutes in length and must relate to the theme: Heroes and Villians. Tell me which night you can/want to perform! Or both!

Go see Tears of Joy’s upcoming adult series show, The Tell-Tale Heart. One live actor (Nate Crosby) takes on a puppet (manipulated by Jon Plueard, Jason Miranda, and Bill Holznagel). Adapted from Edgar Allan Poe’s infamous short horror story, this production blends live actors, mask and life-sized puppets. Only two performances, be sure to get your tickets soon by calling their box office 503.248-0557. Not recommended for youth under 10 years old.

The Fussy Cloud is back! This raucous group of Seattleites are putting on their second installment of adult puppetry next Saturday, January 14th @ 8pm. They’ve rustled up a great crew to perform the crap out of some puppets. Hop to it, let’s all go and have a rockin’ good time.

Fussy Cloud’s Motto: Getting SAD? Getting pissed? Get puppets.
Will include a raffle (who doesn’t love a good raffle?) and live music by The Waifs of the Wharf.

The Seven Deadly Sins Puppet Slam was such a blast! It was the perfect way to round out a year that was chalk full of the art of puppetry. Beady Little Eyes would like thank all the folks involved in making these slams happen. We have been flanked with an awesome tribe behind the scenes, on the stage and across the US; there are too many to name. Stay tuned in January for the announcement of next year’s dates. More soon!

What a gloriously sinful night we had last night! In addition to enjoying incredible puppet shows and films, we text-confessed our sins to Randy, ate dozens of VooDoo Doughnuts, and raffled off prizes. Thanks for supporting live performance, puppeteers and gluttony.

If you find yourself in sunny California this month, don’t miss the incredible, candy-loving Lolly Lardpop and Leslie Carrera-Rudolph in Wake up Your Weird at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, CA. The show opens Sept 30th. Ms. Lardpop is a lovable basket of smiles and will give free hugs if you ask her nicely (see picture above). We are now accepting live act and film submissions for the next puppet slam. This slam will take place at the Someday Lounge in downtown Portland on Saturday, October 15th at 7pm. THE THEME: Seven Deadly Sins. (Thanks Sinking Ship for the theme idea!)

The “Quick N’ Dirty” Puppet Slam was so much fun. The crowd was awesome, the acts were inspiring, and Mr. Toad was ridiculous. We even played an audience participation game and no one cried! Who knew being filthy could be so much fun.

Get ready for … a QUICK N’ DIRTY PUPPET SLAM!

Featuring the amphibian host we all know and love (to point fingers at), Mr. Toad. This slam’s emphasis is on the quick, rough and dirty side of puppetry. Leave your babies at home and venture out to enjoy Portland’s finest puppeteers do their dirtiest. This slam is designed for the 21 and up crowd. Tickets are $8 at the door and seats sell out quickly so arrive early to grab a stiff one. You know, like a drink at the bar, Gutter Brain.

Eric Wright, one of the three head chefs from New York City’s The Puppet Kitchen, is visiting the Portland Puppet scene THIS weekend. Don’t delay and head over to CastIron Carousel (6635. N. Baltimore St. Suite 236) to participate in a Pup-It Workshop this Friday (07/08) or Saturday (07/09) at 1pm.

Each Pup-It Workshop involves two hours of hands-on instruction with Mr. Wright. He will also provide you with the materials, the patterns, and the know how — basically everything you need to design and build your own Pup-it Puppet.

The price is $50 per 2 hr session. Each session will result in a completed functional puppet.

BONUS: If you bring your Pup-it puppet to the AUGUST 20th Beady Little Eyes Puppet Slam, your admission is free.

August 20th Slam Submissions Open

We are now accepting live act and film submissions for the next puppet slam. This slam will take place at the Someday Lounge in downtown Portland on Saturday, August 20th at 7pm. You do not have to be local to submit your puppet film! We screen films from all over.

This slam is a free for all AKA no theme. However, just to spice it up, it will be called the “Quick and Dirty Puppet Slam”. Which is a theme, but not really since all puppet slams are quick and dirty. Confused yet?
